College Life

How my life is going freshman year of college....

So as you probably know I am a freshman at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO. During my senior year at Liberty High School, Culver was not even one of my options for college. I was never interested in Culver, so I never looked into it. I had my heart set on SIUE since I was a freshman in high school. As senior year came, I finally decided I wanted to major in Occupational Therapy which helped me look into schools. Turns out that Culver has an amazing OT program to get into graduate school, so this is where I ended up. After applying and being accepted to Culver, I became interested in the cheerleading program they had here. So I tried out through emailing videos to the coach and made the squad.
I started college in August and I had no expectations. I did not want to make any because I knew I would probably be disappointed. So I came into college openminded and excited. I chose to get a random roommate and her name is Cheyenne and she's a basketball player from Indiana. I was most nervous about living with a random person, but we got in contact with each other before school started to get to know each other and so we could decide who would bring what.
During the first few weeks, I kept to myself and just stayed in my room. Eventually, I started to branch out and be more outgoing. I learned that people always hung out in the lounge of my dorm and that is where I pretty much made all of my friends. We would hang out, talk, play ping-pong, and watch tv for hours in the lounge. I regretted not going out more often when I first got there, but I am so glad I do now. College is so much more enjoyable if you go out and have fun. I have made my best friends here. I told myself I wanted to find my bridesmaids in college and I have! My best friend Cheyanne, from California, and Syd, from Missouri, are my girls that I would not be able to survive without. College is a time where you make your true friends. There are some people that stay in their rooms all the time and I do not know how they do that. Please go out and enjoy yourself!!!

Your past does not define your future.

So many people think their past defines who they are as a person and their future, but it does not. Just because you had a rough upbringing does not make you a bad person; how you decide to handle it and who you decide to become will determine that. I found my drive to become a successful, young woman because of my childhood. I have so much determination from my upbringing and it made me who I am, but it does not define who I am as a person or the future that is yet to come. You can either choose to follow in the footsteps of your past or you can learn and grow from it. -Jess

Here's to a new week!

Didn't have the greatest week? That's okay! It's a new week, and it is time to make the best of it! Set your goals and put that smile on your face. You got this.

Love Each Other.

Colossians 3:14 "Together with these things, the most important part of your new life is to love each other. Love is what holds everything together in perfect unity." I chose to share this verse with you because of all the negative things that have been happening in this world recently. It is devastating to watch the news and hear the tragic stories that have happened to our country. We need to love. We need to show our compassion. Prayers to our country and all the people who have been affected by the recent tragedies. Go on and show your love. 💗
